Tinplate Toys emerged in the late 19th Century. Many of these were clockwork and exported from Germany. Bing and Issmayer began production of tinplate in Nuremberg during the 1860's. German clockwork and tinplate toy makers specialised in ornamental toy including trains and boats. The Japanese soon followed with more conventional toys such as rattles.

Tinplate and Clockwork toys are now very collectible items.
