Copper has been used in civilisations for over 5000 years. The earliest uses are copper pots, coins etc. When polished, copper has a beautiful reddish colour making it not only a practical metal but a very attractive one as well.

Today, the majority of copper is used in electrical equipment as copper is an excellent conductor of heat. Copper was also used extensively through the two world wars and many of the shells were made out of copper. These were often then recycled by Prisoners of War etc in the use of Trenchware.

Above is an example of some World War II Trenchware made from copper. The item is dated 1943 and was probably made by a prisoner of war.
