Guilloche, when used to describe antique items, refers to the process of engine turning on metal. These patterns were carried out by a geometric lathe or rose engine. These machines are no longer used. The patterns could be interwined, conentric, parallel or circular. Once this process had been carried out, the item could be enamelled and decorated in may different ways. Faberge used this technique for many of his eggs.
