The earliest scent bottles date back to the Ancient Egyptians and Romans. These were mainly made of pottery and glass but eventually other substances were used such as silver and silver plate. Scent bottles can be large or small, depending on their purpose. Sometimes they were made to be attached to a chatelain or to fit into a ladies handbag. Others may be bigger if they were to adorn a ladies chamber. Whatever the size, scent bottles are extremely collectible and makers such as Samson Mordan and Lalique have produced many good quality scent bottles. Below are a range of the the types of scent bottle available.
