Toys have been used since prehistoric times. Ancient dolls of infants and animals have been found on archaeological sites. The earliest toys were made from natural sources such as rocks sticks and clay.
In ancient Egypt dolls were made that had wigs and movable limbs from stone pottery and wood while in Greece they were made of wax, terra cotta, sticks, bows and arrows and yo-yos. Greek children were expected to sacrifice their toys to the gods when they became of age.
Toys make excellent collectible items. Not only are they often attractive to look at but they represent part of our own childhood. For women, dolls and teddy bears are excellent items to collect while men may prefer the model train set or dinky toys. Automata or mechanical toys, tinplate and games can suit anyone.
