Travelling clocks have been used since the 1500's. These clocks were known as l'horloge de voyage. Travelling Clocks had to be fairly small and needed a carrying case with access to the dial. This could take the form of a door or window. Some travelling clocks had a strike or alarm. Antique travelling clocks can be quite elaborate as the high society owners liked to travel in the same luxurious style as their everyday lives.
